Everyone has a story, something to say, something to tell the world or those around them. Is it factual or is it their perception only? Sometimes, it can be both. Sometimes it’s really only one way. The traditions, values, practices, religion, food and dress shared through the years contribute to those stories and practices passed down from generation to generation. These are the things deemed worthy of saving for future generations and descendants, the things important enough to share and teach our children and grandchildren about. This is the inheritance we are given, our ethnic background, our religion, the church we attend, the food we eat, the way we dress, the work ethic we were raised with and try to emulate, and the music we listen to. This is our heritage. This is where we came from.
There are many stories to be shared of growing up in Biddeford, living here, working here, having family here, or just being here for a period of time. There are the stories passed down by others, either by word of mouth or written or your own story to tell.
These stories passed down through the years are who we are. They represent what our ancestors went through, what they believed in and influence how we raise our children and interact with others. Here are a few of those for your enlightenment and learning.
These are the stories of those who came before us and were here for us, the stories of those who are still teaching us, sharing and helping us grow.
