Local folk artist,Adelard Coté, began to whittle in the early 1940's according to his daughter, Violette. He used many kinds of wood for his sculptures. Growing up on a farm, he often did carvings of farm life and activities, carrying water, riding a horse, plowing, some of the animals like cows and horses. He drew inspiration from his family and upbringing. Most of his work was done between 1940 -1960. Dr. Beaupré wrote a book about Mr. Cote and his art called "L'enclume et le Cousteau the life and work of ADELARD COTÉ folk artist." They became friends. Dr. Beaupré also did several presentations featuring the folkart of Adelard Coté and recognizing his talent. Mr. Coté gifted Dr. Beaupré with a large selection of his distinct and valuable art work.
