Local folk artist, Adelard Coté, began to whittle in the early 1940's. He used many kinds of wood for his sculptures. Growing up on a farm, he often did carvings of farm life and activities, carrying water, riding a horse, plowing, some of the animals like cows and horses,. He drew much of his inspiration from his family and upbringing. Most of his work was done between 1940 -1960.
