Painting by self- taught Franco-American artist, Ray Courtois who was born in Biddeford, ME. and the son of two Canadian immigrants. He was employed at the Naval Shipyard. He painted Parisian scenes and according to Bernard Cowan, his mother, Bella, told him that the paintings were inspired by a famous French artist whose name he could not recall Painting given to Bella Cowan by the artist, Ray Courtois. Her son, Bernard, donated after her death at age of 100 years old. Bella and her husband owned Sam's Place, a painting and framing store on Main Street in Saco where they also sold art supplies and got to know many of the local artists who frequently gave them paintings according to her son, Bernard.
