Waterhouse Field

Tuck Field was purchased from Mr. Fred Roberts by the Biddeford High School Alumni Association in 1929 and was named Alumni Field. The money came from the citizens of Biddeford, not the city government, and the field was to be used for sports events.

In 1931, during the Great Depression, many of the investor’s were unable to pay their pledges and Alfred Waterhouse took it upon himself to contribute large amounts of money towards the field and its upkeep in order to keep the mortgage solvent and the dream alive.

The field was renamed in 1954 in honor of Alfred W. Waterhouse, a fan and great supporter of Biddeford High School Athletics.

Alfred W. Waterhouse was recently inducted into the Biddeford High School Hall of Honor for his contributions to the school and as one of its greatest supporters. Without his contributions, there would be no field today.

For many decades Waterhouse Field was the hub of Maine high school football, hosting many Western Maine Championship Games, the Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic, soccer games, graduations, band concerts and other events.

The tradition of the field is well known and documented throughout the years.
The field was closed in 2016 due to its sad state of repair and is currently being refurbished in a  display of community working together to support their history, heritage and tradition.
