Biddeford today, has become a vibrant and diverse city.

The culture of the city is changing with new immigrants and offerings for growth and development.

The population is changing. No longer are the Franco-Americans dominant as there are others from Iraq, Lebanon, Somalia, Korea and elsewhere, moving in and welcomed here, with multiple languages spoken, not just english and french.

The schools are  changing, rebuilding and growing. Community is gathering and working together. New ideas are welcomed and embraced for the sake of community.

Thanks to the Heart of Biddeford and others, the downtown area is being revitalized, beautified and efforts are being made to make it more hospitable for visitors and the community at large.

The arts are flourishing and celebrated due to the efforts of Engine. The festivals and art walks involving community celebrate the city and community on a regular basis. 

The old buildings are being refurbished and repurposed for future use, rather than being indiscriminately torn down and destroyed. . 

A refurbished City Theater continues to provide excellent programming and entertainment.

There are several places for community to meet and gather such as Elements and the various new ethnic restaurants, pubs, wineries. Other facilities offer services such as the Biddeford Mill Museum tours or the Wood Island Light House Tours.

The parks are being kept up through volunteerism and open to the public. 

The downtown is being revitalized as is the rest of the city. There is so much progress in place one tends to forget the city’s undesirable nicknames of the past. 

We should be proud of how our city has adapted, changed and grown. The mills are closed, the shoe factories and other factories or businesses have closed. The times have changed, but the strong-willed, resilient community of Biddeford is adapting and doing what must be done to continue to be the united, special, beautiful place that it is.
