Aurore and Huguette are two of twelve children born into the Couture family in the Beauce region of Quebec. Gradually, seven of the twelve left their farming community to find work in Biddeford during the 1950’s to early 1960’s.

Huguette came as a 19-year-old with an older sister, while Aurore later arrived with her husband and two young children. Although they didn’t know how to speak English and only had an 8th grade education, they adapted to life in our community. Both spent most of their working lives employed in area manufacturing facilities and shoe shops.

Both continue to embrace their French background and language while stating unequivocally, that they are happy about their decision to move to Biddeford.
